Resident Program
The resident program is a wonderful opportunity for anyone wishing to enter the fire service as a career. This program allows the single person to actually live in one of our stations. The resident is required to pay no rent or utilities, however, in exchange the resident must agree to spend a minimum of 60 hours per week at one of the stations with 24 of those hours required to be consecutive. The remaining 36 hours are attained through flexible scheduling. This includes the time spent overnight sleeping at the station. . Please see the attached policy on the resident program and feel free to contact Captain Keller if you have any unanswered questions.
Volunteer Opportunities
Fire District #1 takes great pride in its outstanding volunteer corps. These are a dedicated group of individuals to whom the community owes much thanks. There are two distinct groups of volunteers in our department.
IN DISTRICT
These are volunteers who live within the actual borders of the fire district. They are required to attend a minimum of one fire and one medical training offered by the district each month. They are issued their own personal gear and are generally assigned to one of our three stations. They have no requirements for making a minimum number of calls or time spent in station.
OUT OF DISTRICT
These are volunteers who live outside the borders of the fire district. They are required to attend a minimum of one fire and one medical training offered by the district each month. They are further required to spend a minimum of 48 hours per month in one of the fire stations. They are not issued a full compliment of gear. Instead all needed protective equipment is available for use during their stays at the department.
All volunteers, regardless, are required to attend our training academy. This is a program that consists of weekly training modules spread out over a two month period. Each module is enhanced through written testing and the learning of a physical feat skill. The academy ends with cumulative written and physical feats skills testing. The person who successfully passes these tests is then an official volunteer with fire district #1.
Please contact Captain Keller with any further questions about the program
