Spring Hill Man Dies in Motorcycle Wreck

Fire and rescue personnel, and Johnson County Sherriff officers inspect the scene of a fatal motorcycle accident.

A Spring Hill man died of injuries he sustained when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a pickup truck sougth of Gardner on April 1.

The victim was identified as Thomas R. Gruber, 50.

A spokesman for the Johnson County Sheriff's department said they believe Gruber was riding west on 199th Street about 2 p.m. when a northbound Dodge pick-up truck pulled out in front of him on Moonlight Road.

The sheriff's department said the driver of the truck didn't see Gruber coming when they pulled into the intersection.

Gruber's motorcycle struck the vehicle and came to rest under the front of a southbound vehicle that was stopped at the intersection.

Gruber was transported by Life Net Helicopter to Overland Park Regional Medical Center and was taken directly into surgery before succumbing to his injuries.

The sheriff's department said the accident is still under investigation and no charges have been filed.
