Pilot OK after crash
September 18, 2004
Mark Taylor; Gardner News

A Texas man escaped with minor injuries after the twin-engine plane he was piloting crashed Sept. 18 at New Century AirCenter.

Matt Gunter, 27, of Plano, Texas, was en route to Kansas City International Airport when he crashed in a grassy area just off the runway at New Century sometime before 2:43 a.m.

According to a Johnson County Fire District No. 1 official, an employee at Executive Beechcraft witnessed the crash, drove to the scene and transported Gunter to the business, where emergency workers were called.

Gunter, who was alone in the Cessna 414, sustained minor lacerations to the head and was transported to Overland Park Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Fire district officials said Gunter is a courier for Lab One and was flying to KCI when the crash occurred.

Although Gunter sustained only minor injuries, his plane was heavily damaged, with one of its engines, a wing and its nose gear torn off.
