Fire at Food Plant
August 16, 2004
Nick Kowalczyk; Kansas City Star
Fire damaged a food plant sunday afternoon in southern Johnson County when a blaze began, probably in an oven room used for manufacturing ingredients.
At about 2 p.m., firefighters responded to a call at Kerry Sweet Ingredients, 400 Prairie Village Drive near Gardner. Fire officials think the blaze began in an oven room and spread to the building's roof through ducts.
It took firefighters about two hours to extinguish the blaze, said Dan Wise, administrative Fire Captain of Johnson County Fire District #1.
Wise said no one was hurt in the fire. A damage estimate was unavailable Sunday.
The fire is under investigation.
