How do I become a volunteer firefighter? How often do you accept volunteers? How many volunteers do you put on at a time? How do I become a paid firefighter?
How do I become a volunteer firefighter? Pickup or download an application. Complete this application and drop it by any station. These applications are kept on file and we will contact you when the fire district is going to be conducting a recruit academy.
How often do you accpet volunteers? This varies greatly depending on the specific needs of the fire district. It may be quarterly or yearly.
How many volunteers do you put on at a time? Again, it varies but I like to put on no fewer than three and no more than eight. These numbers are manageable for an academy.
How do I become a paid firefighter? The minimum requirements for Fire District #1 are that each applicant shall have successfully passed CPAT and The Fire Fighters Entrance Exam. They must also be a Kansas Certified EMT-B and have their Kansas Fire Fighter I. The applicant must also be at least 18 years of age. These are the minimum requirements for accepting an applicant. There are other criteria that they must pass once they have moved on in the process. You will find that these minimum qualifications are soon not going to be enough to enter into a career in the fire service. I recommend that anyone interested in a full time career invest as much time as possible toward their degree in fire science.
