OUR NEW ADDITION: 2006 Precision Fire Apparatus Fire Engine

Fire District #1 recently added a 2006 Precision Fire Apparatus Fire Engine to our fleet. The concept of this piece of apparatus is completely new to our department in that the truck has a rear mount pump. By placing the pump in the rear of the unit, it allowed for more storage space to increase our operational effectiveness on emergency scenes by bringing more equipment and recources in on package.
The chassis is built by Spartan Motors, and is their Diamond model with a 10” raised roof, and a 400hp Cummins motor. The cab interior has seating for six firefighters along with storage for medical equipment. Six portable flashlights and radios are mounted by each seated position to allow firefighters to have the vital tools and equipment at hand before dismounting the apparatus. A thermal imaging camera is also mounted in a charger, along with spare flashlight batteries, radio batteries, and environmental monitoring equipment. Also in the cab, located in the officer’s position of the apparatus, is a Mobile Data Terminal (MDT), which relays vital information to the crew about emergencies that they are responding too. The MDT is connected to the Johnson County Emergency Communications Center, who is responsible for the dispatching of emergency calls for our response area.
The body of the apparatus was built by Precision Fire Apparatus, and has a 1250 gallon per minute Hale pump, and a 750 gallon poly water tank. There are 4 hose lines that are pre-connected to the pump. These lines are our primary means to attack fires, in that they are rapidly deployed. 3 of these lines are with in a compartment in the body of the truck, and the 4th is located in the front bumper. 1000’ of 4” supply hose in located in the rear hose bed, and is used to connect to water supplies during firefighting activities.
The truck also has a 15kw hydraulic driven generator to provide electricity for lighting and other tools, and a hydraulic rescue pump to power our assortment of Amkus extrication tools. The rescue pump supplies 3 mounted hydraulic reels which are preconnected to cutters and spreaders, to allow for rapid rescue of persons trapped in vehicles, and other technical rescue situations.
Assorted tools and other equipment fill the other compartments of this apparatus which help us effectively carryout the mission of Fire District #1 of Johnson County now, and in the future. |
